Peregrine Espresso was founded in 2008 by Ryan and Jill Jensen with the hope of serving great coffee to the people of Washington, DC, accompanied by great service, education and a focus on sustainability. Peregrine Espresso opened at 660 Pennsylvania Ave SE in August 2008 followed by 1718 14th St NW in May 2011 and Union Market in September 2012.

Owner Ryan Jensen first worked a shift in a coffee shop during college in 2000 and hasn’t done much else since. Before opening Peregrine Espresso, Ryan worked as a barista, manager, general manager, bookkeeper, trainer, consultant, baker and delivery driver for Break Espresso in Missoula, MT, Murky Coffee in Washington, DC, and Counter Culture Coffee, based in Durham, NC. Awards and accomplishments include winning the 2005 Southeast Regional Barista Competition, competing in the 2005 United States Barista Championship, serving as a member of the USBC Committee from 2006 to 2009, and judging at the USBC 2006 to 2008.
